Cumin Seeds are obtained from the dried fruits of the Cuminum cyminum plant, a flowering species belonging to the Apiaceae family. Native to the Irano-Turanian region, cumin is widely valued for its warm aroma, earthy flavor, and extensive culinary uses across global cuisines in both whole and ground form.
India is the world’s largest producer of cumin, contributing nearly 70% of global production, while countries such as Syria, Turkey, UAE, and Iran also play important roles in global supply. Cumin seeds are extensively used in spice blends, curries, soups, snacks, and traditional recipes due to their distinctive taste and aroma.
